Sequel Turtle--How it Should Fit | |
| The Sequel Turtle is engineered for a snug fit. We have different patterns for women and men, each has the same in-the-boat functionality. | |
 | A. Your Sequel Turtle should have a snug fit across the chest and belly, with the lower back feeling close but not tight around your hips. The real test is to go into full compression--whether on the ground or on an erg. B. Armholes are cut so that when at your full reach, you won't be chafed in front. Most people will be wearing a technical shirt of some kind under the Turtle anyway, but we don't want any baby-soft skin being rubbed raw. C. See how the long tail lays flat over the lower back, giving full protection when in the wind. It is all about keeping you protected. |

When you sit down to design your JL Sequel Turtleshell, there are three important issues:

- What is so different from the Purist?
There are two main differences from the Turtle that we've had for over 20 years--firstly the Sequel is up to 2 inches longer in the front: Secondly we've made it with a tall collar, one that can be zipped up high if you really really want to keep the cold out. Still the same great function. - Why a chest pocket?
People are taking more of their lives with them in the boat. Our pocket is sized for the objects that a rower might need, and located where it will not interfere with the rowing motion. This pocket is standard on the Sequel, and optional on the Purist. - So what's with the name?
Sequel is what we call the second version of a good thing. We keep our Purist Turtle as it is, because it works--and release a Sequel because there are things we felt rowers would appreciate. - How snug should I wear it?
The Turtle is meant to be worn fairly snug--the 4-way stretch front allows this garment to lay smoothly over your belly. Besides, all you will be wearing under your Turtle is a suit and a techshirt, and these (even the thickest) will not take up much room. For more information on fit, click on the Sizing tab above. - Should I worry about getting the tail stuck in my tracks?
Not at all! When sized correctly the tail lays flat; protecting your lower back completely yet still "floating" far above the tracks.
